Diary Entry, 24 October 2024

A picture of a cozy living room in spite of a raging typhoon outside.

It is half past five in the morning. Here I am, still at my desk, with my MacBook. I am waiting for Typhoon Kristine to pass. I hope it's light out soon.

A Moment of Calm

Around 11 pm last night, I thought my area would not be affected. I have seen photos and videos of how this typhoon has devastated the Bicol region. I thought the typhoon was over. I mean, the destruction and flooding occurred on the evening of the 22nd until the wee hours of the 23rd.

Unfortunately, it seems Kristine is a slow-moving tub.

The Build-Up to the Storm

Twenty-four hours later, it hit my location, which was about a ten-hour drive from the Bicol region. I didn't think much of it. I noticed the winds picking up by midnight and heard my windows and roof rattling. The power was going on and off, and by 2 am, the power was completely gone.

Thankfully, my MacBook and phone were completely charged. Mikey forgot to charge his phone (or DID NOT charge his phone) despite my many reminders. My HP laptop was also not charged, jeez. We should do better next time.

The cats were afraid. Mikey was okay, but somehow, I knew he wasn't too happy about the situation. So we all stayed at the office on the townhouse's ground floor. Mikey set himself up with blankets and pillows, and the cats sprinkled about the floor by my feet, on the shelves, and my desk.

I have spent the past three hours reading on my Kindle app, with a few minutes here and there popping in TikTok. I needed the noise from TikTok because the howling wind was scaring the bejesus out of me. To be honest, I did not notice the rain at all. But the wind? Oh, my word. It's starting to get light out. I feel a lot safer now. Also, my cat Bobby is loafing by my left foot.

Thank you, Lord, my family is safe.
