Diary Entry, 08 January 2025

It's Wednesday. I got paid today. Woo! In addition, I received our monthly allowance from my dad a few hours before my salary was credited to my payroll account. Double woo!

I immediately set aside the money for my sinking funds and emergency fund, then paid off my credit card bill. It feels so very freeing. In the last year since I became gainfully employed, I have come to appreciate what it means to have a livelihood and stable income. It took me many years - 4 decades - to fully understand it.

Mo' Money Mo' Problems?

In addition, I am slowly but surely getting better at managing finances. I am by no means an expert at it, but I am happy to see progress. I still need to break many bad habits and build new habits, but I will acknowledge my small wins. The majority of my bills have been paid on time since I had a job. It was not that money was lacking. My dad has given, and still does, a lot of money. I was just really bad at managing money. I was a mindless spender. I buy things impulsively. I was too lazy to find ways to be more wise with my finances. I know better, of course. I know the right thing to do. I always have. I just did not have the will to practice discipline. Somehow, having a job has improved this aspect.

Anyway, I woke up at 8:21 pm, just in time to log on to my work at 8:30. I love working from home. I could just roll off my bed, go to my home office, and work. I do try to wake up earlier than that since I lacked sleep for two days due to my kid being ill, my body really needed recover.

The majority of the tasks I did today were administrative. I attended two meetings today - a daily standup and a training. There wasn't much brain power required for those today, and for that, I am grateful. The best thing about today was that I logged off at 5 am, with only 30 minutes of overtime, and all my tasks for the day were completed. I am getting better at setting boundaries between work and personal life. I have learned that work does not really end. One does not run out of tasks. Once the most urgent tasks are done, the others will be waiting for me the following day.

Downtime with a Good Movie

After my shift, I watched a movie that just dropped on Disney+ - Young Woman and the Sea. I couldn't believe it was two hours long. Even if it was not an action film and mostly story-driven (with most of the action being swimming), I did not feel like it was as long as it was. I'd like to watch it again this weekend with my kid. After all, we're both swimmers, and I am sure he will also appreciate a biopic of Gertrude Ederle, the first woman to swim across the English Channel in 1926.

Oh, I also had a nice Croque Monsieur and a Venti Vienna Creamy Frappuccino for lunch. So good.
